How do I prevent being in a motorcycle Accident?

There are many things you can do to prevent being in a motorcycle accident.  Above all, learn to ride your motorcycle. We recommend that you take a certified Highway Patrol riding course. If you have not ridden your motorcycle for a while, we recommend taking a refresher motorcycle riding course.

The more you practice riding your motorcycle, the better you will get theoretically. If you have not ridden your motorcycle for a while, it will take a while for you to get your skills back. Practice makes perfect.

Some say you need to ride on a motorcycle for at least a thousand miles to really learn a particular motorcycle, we recommend 2 to 3000 miles to really learn a motorcycle.

Learning to ride and handle your motorcycle is the most important way to prevent a motorcycle accident. The second most important way to prevent a motorcycle accident, is to pretend like you are invisible when you’re riding. In other words, pretend like nobody else on the road can see you.

Defensive driving is the key when you’re on a motorcycle. If you see somebody about to make a left, reduce your speed and cover, anticipate that they are going to make a left in front of you. If you can, look at the wheel hubs to see if they’re moving, if they are take precaution.

Never ever tailgate cars or other motorcycles. Always leave enough room, to be able to stop in case the vehicle in front of you suddenly stops.

Do not succumb to peer pressure. Many motorcycle riders ride way above their skill level when they are with friends on motorcycles. If you do not feel comfortable, lag behind the group, and catch up with them later. Remember, it’s better to make it home in one piece, then to impress your friends.

There are many other ways to prevent motorcycle accidents. If you go to the founder of injured bikers.com blog, the Biker Law Blog which you can get to by clicking here, you can read many articles on motorcycle safety.

How can I protect myself in case I am in a motorcycle accident in the future?

You will have to expect that you will either be hit by an uninsured motorist, or an underinsured motorist. (Underinsured means that they do not have enough insurance to cover your losses in a motorcycle accident)

We recommend the you have full coverage on your motorcycle, including uninsured motorist for a minimum of $500,000. If you can afford it, we recommend a one million-dollar uninsured motorist policy. In California uninsured insurance is the same as underinsured insurance.

This will cover the difference between whatever the defendant who hits you has, to ensure you have enough insurance.

We also recommend that you have a supplemental long-term disability policy to cover you in case you’re out of work for an extended period of time beyond what the state provides.

Download and install the injuredbikers.com app on your Android or Apple phone in case you are in a motorcycle accident. It will help you exchange information, take pictures of the scene of the accident, make recordings, and do other things, and then directly upload them to injuredbikers.com so that we can handle your case. You may go to the injuredbikers.com app page by clicking here.

Always keep an “ICE" card in your wallet, and have an “ICE" contact on your cell phone. ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. We recommend that you have at least 2 emergency contacts in your wallet or purse, with their full contact information, as well as on your phone. The contact name in your phone will simply be In Case of Emergency, and then you will put their information within that name. This will allow emergency personnel, law enforcement, and medical personnel, to contact your emergency contact to let them know it’s going on.

You should always brief your In Case of Emergency contact and what needs to be done in case you are incapacitated. They should know where your will is if you have one, who your employer is in case they need to contact them to inform them of what is going on, they should know what to do if you’re incapacitated what your wishes are.

If you have any medical conditions, you should also keep a medical information slip in your wallet or purse, and advises emergency personnel, and medical personnel of any health conditions you may have, and what the Scriptures you’re on. You also want to include your blood type if you know it.

What do I do if I am in a motorcycle accident?

Unfortunately, many motorcycle accidents are catastrophic. In a catastrophic motorcycle accident, often times the motorcycle rider who was involved in this type of accident is unable to do anything. Many times, they are unconscious. The only thing you can do under the circumstances is hope that you protected yourself by having an In Case of Emergency contact card in your wallet and in your cell phone, and gave your In Case of Emergency Contact instructions on what to do if you’re in a motorcycle accident. Part of the instructions you should have given your emergency contact is to contact us here at Injuredbikers.com at 800-816-1529, so that we can start the process of helping you right away.

Many motorcycle accidents are not catastrophic, and the motorcycle rider, although injured, can still walk around and deal with things.

You will read everywhere that the 1st thing you should do after a motorcycle accident, is get medical attention if you are injured, we agree with that. However, at the scene of the accident, if you are able too, make sure you get the information of the person who is responsible for the accident, as well as witnesses. The best way to do this, is through the injuredbikers.com app, which you can download by clicking here.

If you do not have the app, you can download it at the scene of the accident, or simply take pictures with your cell phone of all exchange information such as drivers license, registration, insurance, defendant, their vehicle, your vehicle, witness information, and then email it to us as soon as you can contact us. If you’re at the scene of the accident, if you can, call us immediately at 800-816-1529, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day, and we will tell you exactly what to do while you are there.

Obviously you’re injured you will want to get medical care soon as possible. It’s a matter of common sense. You don’t want to get into an accident, and not identify or get the information of the person responsible, because most UIM policies will not cover you in less you identify the defendant.

However, if you’re too injured to walk around and deal with getting information, but your conscious, either you, or someone at your request, should immediately call the police, and the paramedics.

There are many cities or jurisdictions in California that will not dispatch police to minor accidents to take reports, but at least in California, if there is an injury accident and law enforcement is called, they are supposed to take a report. You will be relying on them to get the defendants information. If you can, ask them to get it for you at the scene of the accident and to provide it to you before your transported to the hospital.

Do not be afraid to ask someone at the scene to get the defendant’s information for you If you cannot get it yourself!

Remember, these are just common sense things should be done to protect you. The last thing you want is to get nailed by a car, have your bike damaged, and not have someone to go after to compensate you for your injury.

Once you have dealt with the above, you should immediately call us at 800-816-1529 extension 1.

The moves you make after the motorcycle accident could mean the difference between not getting anything, getting a little bit of money, or getting a whole bunch of money. We can assure you based upon our experience, that almost in all instances that we have seen, a person represented by an attorney will get more money than a person without an attorney.

Do not fall into the trap of hiring a generic non-riding personal injury attorney who has fancy advertisements, but not that exact expertise necessary to do motorcycle accident cases.

There are also major marketing outfits out there that advertise to bikers, but are nothing more than marketing scams where generic non riding personal injury attorneys either buy a territorial franchise, or pay a referral fee back to the main attorney advertising.

If you call injuredbikers.com you will be dealing with expert lawyers who ride motorcycles. We will take care of you if you’re not at fault, and there are assets on the other end to go after.

Do not talk to anybody, especially insurance adjusters, insurance investigators, even the defendant, about the accident, into you talk to us. Once you retain us, we will speak for you. Remember anything you say, can and will be used against you in your case, and in a court of law.
